Founded in 1894, Massaro has contributed to the success of the two-tone shoe since 1957 at Gabrielle Chanel’s side, and has been a member of the Métiers d’art since 2002. An exceptional know-how brought to life at the Creation Studio, it is now led by artistic director Virginie Viard since February 2019. The sparkling shoes — and all of the house’s couture footwear — are created by the Chanel -owned Massaro Paris bespoke atelier, which also produces the custom designs for the label’s Métiers. The CHANEL 2021/22 Métiers d’art collection is enhanced by the work of the Maisons d’art under Virginie Viard’s impetus. Abd Al Malik and He Cong share their impressions upon the ateliers of the shoemaker Massaro, newly installed inside le19M, the Parisian building dedicated to the Fashion Métiers. In a tiny jewel of an atelier on Rue de la Paix, a few steps away from the Chanel flagship on Rue Cambon is the house of Massaro, the custom shoe-makers which make up one of the seven ateliers that Chanel purchased in 2002, as part of Paraffection.
